SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

Hello,

In August 2018 I moved to Montreal, Canada, to work as a 3D character artist on The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run at Mikros animation, produced by Paramount Pictures.

To set up the 3D models of the characters for approval, we placed them in a neutral pose with a neutral facial expression. Once the models were validated by Adrien Montero (sup lead), Rachelle Tiep Daniels (Artistic director), Andrew Overtoom (Animation director), and Tim Hill (director), the characters were placed in T pose with a neutral expression and we optimized the 3D mesh so that it could be rigged and then animated for the film.

In animation movies, the models are done collectively. Sometimes several versions are created, sometimes a model will be made by different people. Once our models have been approved, they are further transformed to create animation, facial expressions ...

SpongeBob's style is special because it is cartoonish but with subtle organic shapes. My previous experiences at Ankama and Ubisoft were useful in helping me find this specific "touch" that allowed us to validate several characters.

A big thank you to the 3D character modeling team @Mikros for the great atmosphere and teamwork (Adrien Montero, Ladislas Gueros, Alexis Adrian, Julie Chu, Mickael Goyec, Sebastien Monnier, Antoine Poullain, Pierre Blanchon).

Have a nice day :)
